The decade everybody seems to be drawing inspiration from lately is the seventies. And if there was one 70s icon who knew how to turn heads it was Farrah. With her girl-next-door charm and laid-back style, she won her status as one of America's sweethearts.

Farah was a simple girl, preferring blue jeans and button-downs over glitz and glam. Note the style of her jeans; high waisted bell bottoms. This is a style a lot of designers chose to use in their spring collections. I have a feeling we'll all be getting in touch with our inner Farrah this spring.

Bunny Fufu is one of two fashion blogs managed by the unbelievably creative and inspiring Brianna, who goes by the pen name, Fashion Monstre. Brianna scours the internet for fashion bloggers whom she finds inspiring, then posts photos of them to Bunny Fufu. And she is so good at what she does. This blog is an absolute hotbed of beauty and inspiration. Featuring bloggers from all over the planet, Brianna’s eclectic style is reflected in each dazzling post.

Her other blog, titled Banana, is more personal, containing her own outfit posts in addition to street style pictures, photos from fashion magazines, video clips, model pictures, and all kinds of other bits and anything else she stumbles across that sparks her interest. This blog is more like a visual diary, and is equally inspiring.

Brianna kindly set aside some time to answer a few of my questions:

When did you realize fashion was something you were passionate about?

My mom always wanted to be a fashion designer when she was young, she got accepted into FIT, but unfortunately didn't have the money to pay for it. At the time she told me this I honestly didn't really care about fashion all that much...until I was in 7th grade. I was doing some project in class and needed a magazine, my dad picked up a Teen Vogue for me. Once I flipped through the glorious pages of color I instantly fell in love. I became my "own" person at this point, not following any of those "abercrombie middle schoolers".

If you had to pick only one, who is your ultimate fashion icon?

Alright this is upsetting but I really don't have a fashion icon. But I do have a strong love for Emmanuel Alt. Most of the outfits I wear tend to come out similar to hers- black and white and simple yet chic.

Where do you draw inspiration from? (ie. The streets, fashion magazines, music videos, old family photos, etc.)

My inspiration comes from almost everything such as music, magazines, my family and friends, celebrities, my mood, and streets. I do have a book though, that I made about 2 years ago that is clippings of my most favorite and inspirational items and people, looking through it always gives me a boost of help for picking out what I'll be wearing.

“Six Items or Less” is a global experiment that challenges its participants to wear only six items for an entire month. If you had to participate in this experiment, what would your six items be?

Well if I had to pick 6 of my favorite items to wear for a whole month, it would definitely be a bit difficult. But I would pick out my most favorite BB Dakota O'Sullivan Tweed Blazer (one of my favorite blazers I own), Dolce Vita- Josephine Stacked Leather Wooden Heel, I would have to pick another pair of Dolce Vita's- the Tolden Wedge Ruched Ankle Booties in gray (yes I love DV!), an amazing pair of black plain leggings, J. Crew white button up shirt, and the Aqua Rose One Shoulder Mini Dress from ASOS. Even though you can't exactly wear these things together for a month without repeating I would totally enjoy wearing all of them! But I would definitely have to accessorize tremendously.

Coco Chanel

Perhaps the most iconic figure in fashion, Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel is the founder of Chanel; one of the most notorious houses of fashion. Coco was born into a life of hardship, experiencing the death of her mother and the consequent abandonment of her father at the vulnerable age of twelve.

Before she became Coco Chanel, fashion powerhouse and designer of gorgeous clothes, she had to work her way up. She started as a seamstress, designing hats as a hobby. Then she began making hats for a living. Three years after she opened her hat boutique, she finally entered into the world of clothes, designing and selling her garments to prominent members of society.

There is much debate over personal aspects of her life, especially of her romantic life, but due to her private nature and use of multiple names, it's difficult to decipher truth from rumor.

One thing that is definitely not rumor, however, is that the name Chanel has become synonymous with classic glamor. Coco once said "A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous." And that is exactly what she always was. Tweeds, nautical stripes, black, jackets, hats, and pearls define Coco's infamous style.

Always a portrait of class and elegance, she is still admired by people all over the world today, proving she knew all to well what she was talking about when she said "Fashion fades, only style remains the same".

It's All in the Details: Alexa Chung

This English beauty's effortless style has made her a fashion icon not just in the UK, but worldwide. But what makes her style so special?

Alexa doesn't wear a whole lot of high fashion. In fact most of what she wears is (more expensive versions of) stuff you might expect to find if you raided a NYC college student's closet; sensible basics, solid neutrals, a few big statement pieces, and loads of accessories. So it's not immediately evident what's so captivating about her style. But once you take a closer look, you'll see that Ms Chung is the master of effortless chic and attention to detail.

Although she is definitely not afraid of it, Alexa does not wear much color. She tends to choose solids over prints and neutrals over colors. However, this doesn't mean she's boring and un-experimental. The uniqueness of her garments tends to lie within their structure.

70s Wrap Dress

Why we love it:

This is a fantastic transitional piece from winter to spring. This spring bold color was a huge trend among designers, and the color of this dress is just gorgeous. Its super short hemline also makes it a flirty little addition to any girl's wardrobe. And it's a wrap dress, so it looks great on everybody.

How to Wear It:

In the colder months, pair it with tights, like Anne Hathaway does with her wrap dress. Add accessories, sweaters, jackets, etc to stay warm and add personality to your look.

In the warmer weather, take a cue from our fashionable first lady and bare your legs like Michelle Obama. Adding sandals, belts, sunglasses, and jewelry to this super cute little wrap dress will transition it seamlessly into the spring.

The 90s

Today we're going back to the days when you always had an extra set of batteries on you in case your Discman died. Back to the days of Dial-up internet, Nick at Nite, denim, florals, spandex stirrups, and fanny packs. That's right, I'm talking about the 90s.

The 90s were a very transitional point in fashion, often talked about like two separate eras: the early 90s, characterized by grunge fashion, and the late 90s/early 2000s. For the sake of simplification, I am going to follow this precedent, and group the late 90s and the early 2000s together, and save that era for another post.

The grunge culture that emerged in the early 90s blended destruction, leather, denim, and flannel with dainty florals, lace, frills, and bodycon dresses. It wasn't uncommon to see an acid wash denim bucket hat paired with a sunflower print sun dress, ripped tights, and a pair converse sneakers.

Melissa Joan Hart as "Clarissa" on Nickelodeon's popular show rocks her patterned tights, high socks and ankle boots with her cutoffs and oversized leather jacket.

Accessories; always a must. The bucket hat was a 90s staple as far as accessories go. Having a bad hair day? Just throw on that hat with the oversized flower on the front and nobody will notice your cowlick.

Second-skin bodycon dresses like Tori Spelling's (the floral print) were super cute in the 90s.

Clueless' Cher and Dionne wear over-the-knee socks (making a huge comeback now) with their super-short dresses. Note Tai's flannel skirt. Flannel too has made a huge comeback in recent years.

As I've already implied, the 90s are currently experiencing somewhat of a revival. Below, some celebrities show their 90s sides:

How'd She Do That?

Looking like a total bombshell, Evan Rachel Wood graced the cover of November's issue of Nylon Magazine. I could not tear my eyes away from the gorgeous photos, and fell head over heels for the retro styling. From her cat eyeliner to her decade-inspired getups, everything about this shoot is dead on and I'm loving it.

Bustiers, jackets, high waistlines, hot pants, skirts, florals, denim, vinyl, and juicy pops of color are key for this look. So with ERW was my muse, I scoured VPV for some similar garments and here's what I came up with:

Dan Post Cowboy Boots

Why we love them: The detail on these boots is incredible. They are beautiful. The low heel also makes them perfect to wear every day, wherever you go.

How to wear them: The Western look was pretty big among spring 2011 ready to wear lines. Pair these boots with jeans, denim shorts, or above-the-knee dresses and lots of chunky stone, bead, feather, and leather accessories.

Today my glorious new shredded t shirt from VPV arrived in the mail. It's tissue soft, cropped, and shredded to perfection. I'm in love. I snapped a few photos demonstrating a couple of different ways I'm going to wear it.

It will also look awesome with my high-waisted black skinny pants (which didn't make it into this post, as they are in the laundry).

Kate Nash

My style crush this week is on the beautiful, talented, and (of course) amazingly stylish Kate Nash. Kate is an English singer/songwriter whose wardrobe is made up almost entirely of vintage dresses and skirts. She loves color and isn't afraid to try anything.

Kate's style is romantic and cutting-edge all at the same time, combining London street style with feminine vintage pieces.

I think I've seen two pictures of Kate in pants. She is almost always in a skirt or a dress, usually with tights. For some reason, I find that both strange and quaint. It's weird to think about living in dresses, yet it makes me nostalgic for the days when living in dresses was the norm.

Prep School Geek Chic

Well, my prayers have officially been answered. God is filling the world with nerdy men! ...Sort of. One of my favorite recent trends in men's fashion is the prep school/geek chic look that involves sweaters, vests, belts, blazers, ties, and of course, those big nerdy glasses that Mark Salling (above) is looking so fine in. It's more polished than the standard jeans and t shirt, but you don't have to be going to the Oscars to wear it. If you're feeling intimidated by the look, try adding just one piece to your outfit. Wear your jeans and a t shirt, but add a vest, belt, blazer, or sweater. You'll be amazed by how much more pulled together you can look just by adding one item. Check out the pros below:

This specimen is Chris Pine. Chris is looking deliciously preppy in his matching pants and blazer, oxford, belt, tie, and loafers.

The always amazing Justin Timberlake opts for a vest and tie with his jeans. But he puts his own spin on the look, adding a leather bomber.

Pharrell Williams looking super sexy in his argyle sweater. He also adds a little flair with his fedora.

Taylor Lautner and Chase Crawford demonstrate the different ways to wear a vest. Taylor looks cool and clean with his buttoned up over an oxford and tie. Chase, sans tie, looks a little more relaxed with both his top buttons and vest left unbuttoned.

Bruno Mars opts for a little bit of everything; suspenders, fedora, nerdy glasses, leather bomber, and plaid oxford. Be careful attempting this one. Sometimes adding too many accessories can make you look confused. Bruno pulls it off nicely by matching his accessories to the colors in his shirt.

Twiggy

This week's Icon we adore is none other than the glorious Twiggy. When Lesley Hornby, nicknamed Twiggy for her long skinny legs, burst onto the fashion scene at the age of 16, she forever changed the modeling industry. Her long, lean build and big blue eyes gained her international popularity as a fashion icon. Since Twiggy, the fashion industry has sought out models with features similar to the ones Twiggy was so well known for, so she is often credited as the first modern fashion model.

Twiggy's modeling career peaked during the sixties, which was a very exciting time for fashion. Pixie cuts, psychedelic prints, and how-short-can-it-get hemlines reigned supreme as women all over the world embraced a fashion revolution. At the head of this revolution was a doe-eyed teenager from England who would go down in history as a fashion icon.

Color Block Jumpsuit

Why we love it: Perfect, perfect example of how designers draw inspiration from the past for current lines! From its lime green top to its wide leg, this jumpsuit looks like it's straight off the spring 2011 catwalk. So many designers had at least one version of the jumpsuit in their spring 2011 fashion shows. Here are two of my favorites:

Rihanna

This week I'm crushing on the style of the notorious Rihanna. Considered a fashion genius by some, Rihanna's style is characterized by constant evolution and envelope-pushing. Just when you think you've got her figured out, she goes and shaves half her head. She never does anything small. For this Barbados-born diva, it's all about breaking the fashion rules in a big way.

Defying the traditional fashion rule of not mixing prints, Rihanna is rocking her oversized tribal cropped tee and black and white abstract patterned pants. It's important, however, to note that both pieces are black and white. She balances the boldness of the prints with an absence of color.

Here we have another excellent example of Rihanna's balanced rule-breaking. Even some of the most daring ladies out there would look at that pearl necklace and think it would just be too much pearl for any outfit. But not Princess Ri Ri. She knocks them dead, draping the necklace over her solid black jumpsuit's plunging neckline. This balanced rule-breaking that Rihanna routinely practices is what defines her style and keeps her from being boring, while at the same time preventing her from looking like a mess.

A lot of people think Rihanna's style is hard to copy, since she outfits herself almost entirely in designer. And it's true that if you want to wear the same things she does, you'd better have a deep, deep pocket. But the beauty of high fashion is that designers often draw influence from the past, which is where it comes in handy to be a vintage-lover. Usually, if you see something you love on the runway, you can find something similar to it in a vintage clothing store. Below are pictures of Rihanna in some vintage/vintage-inspired getups.

The Shirt Dress

One garment I was glad to see designers using in their spring collections was the shirt dress. The shirt dress is such a lovely, classic garment. It manages to be feminine without being girly; its clean lines making it easy to dress up or down. And it's so easy to update according to trends.

Paul & Joe

This lovely little shirt dress is kept current with it's wacky print (kittens playing). Offbeat prints were a trend among spring 2011 RTW shows. The print takes center stage in this look with barely-there sandals, a skinny belt, and a complimentary bag. Bravo!

Cacharel

Another trend seen again and again this spring was bold color. Here again, the color is the focal point of the outfit with minimal accessories, strappy sandals, and a complimentary bag. Too cute!

Christian Dior

The print in this Christian Dior shirt dress highlights another spring 2011 trend: interesting color pairings. The purple and lime green in this print go nicely together, although they aren't two colors you'd typically think to put together in an outfit. Paired with some seriously oversized accents, this dress another fantastic update on a classic look.

Ralph Lauren

The spring lines weren't all about wild prints and crazy colors. The shirt dress gets a simpler update from Ralph Lauren in vivid white fabric with western accents. The result is clean and classic with a trendy twist. Just wonderful!

To Alter or Not to Alter...

Sifting through the racks at your local thrift store, a dress catches your eye. The print is great. You love the neckline. But the hem is too long and the sleeves are too puffy, and you wouldn't wear it as is. Do you buy it and alter it, or do you walk away and leave it for somebody who loves it the way it is?

Some people would call you a vintage-killer if you were to make alterations to it. From their view, vintage clothing is like a historical document, and altering it is like taking the Declaration of Independence and turning it into a rap. Once you cut up vintage clothing, it's done forever. You can't go back and restore it to its exact original state. You're taking out of it what's so valuable about it; the fact that it's old fashioned.

Other people would say to go ahead and buy it. Cut it Bedazzle it. Do whatever you want to do to it. It's yours and nobody can tell you what you can and can't do with your own clothes. Besides, isn't it better to be contributing to the recycling of clothes, rather than purchasing mass-produced garments that harm the environment and the people who make them? From this perspective, the cutting of a vintage garment is not the end of the world. If you don't like the way something fits, but you see a way to make it fit you better, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to alter it.

It's All in the Details

Guys, I'm talking about accessories. You may be thinking to yourself, "What? That's absurd. Men don't accessorize!" Maybe not in the way you're thinking

of accessories. But it's now easier than it's ever been for men to add stylish little details to their outfits. Things like jackets, belts, sunglasses, and hats can give an outfit edge, style, and originality.

Here we have Jason Derulo demonstrating how just adding a hat can give a whole new look to jeans and an oxford.

Even something as simple as a great pair of sunglasses can really pull a look together. Joseph Gordon-Levitt uses them here to give his classic, clean-cut look a more laid-back edge.

A great way to bring some style to your jeans and t shirt is by adding a cool jacket. Robert Pattionson (above) opts for leather, while Adam Brody (below) goes with a military-style bomber.

The Veronicas

This week I have a style crush on Jessica and Lisa Origliasso of The Veronicas. These itty bitty rocker twins from Brisbane, Australia have big style. Always edgy and at the same time girly, their style is a mind-bending combination of leather and tulle; studs and frills; like some kind of cross between a fairy princess and Steven Tyler. It’s this duplicity that sets them apart, and makes them so fascinating.

Girly/GrittyHere we have a good example of the girls pairing girly and edgy pieces. Lisa wears a dress under a leather jacket. Jess combines her sparkly green sweater with an “I hate your band” (written herself) tunic and tights.

Fifty Percent Girly
The two are vintage lovers and often sport cute vintage dresses (like these) at events.

They both wear a lot of flannel and denim for more of a “daytime” look. And in the cold weather, they layer up with skinny pants, tights, and slouchy outerwear.

For much of history, women have worn dresses, and the dress has been a symbol of femininity and womanhood. What’s the universal sign for “women’s room”? A stick figure wearing a dress. It’s no wonder that a garment so closely associated with the female identity, then, has taken so many evolutionary turns as our ideas of femininity and womanhood have evolved.

Although people were wearing clothes long before this time, the dress as we know it probably had its earliest start in the middle ages, in the times of European monarchy. For a very long time, the dress was symbolic of how much money a woman had. Those who were wealthiest had countless dresses, all painstakingly detailed and embellished so there was no mistake that they had lots of money. The poorest women of the time only had a few very simple dresses that served the purpose of covering their body parts, but did little more than that. In Puritan America, the women didn’t wear colored dresses, because they believed colored clothing to be frivolous, and the women who wore it to be sinners.

For a long time, the dress was accompanied by restrictive undergarments called corsets. Wealthy women would often have several maids who would work together to draw the laces of the corset as tight as they possibly could in order to give the woman a shapely hourglass figure. This was a dangerous practice, often resulting in broken ribs or inability to breathe properly.

Though the silhouette of the dress changed a little from decade to decade, the first real dress revolution did not come until the 1920s. As the economy boomed and the jazz horns blared, in the night clubs of the big cities, a new kind of woman was born. She played fast and loose, and that was clear just from the way she dressed. Flappers ditched the restrictive undies, chopped off their hair, and hiked up their embellished, form fitting skirts, leaving little to the imagination. Scandalous!

With the Great Depression, the fancy flapper fashion took a back seat to a much simpler fashion (usually a blouse and drab skirt suit) as women concentrated more on economical issues and less on dressing up.

Toward the late 40s and into the 50s, the drab of the depression was phasing out, and the dress was fun again, with bright colors, and flouncy circle skirts, perfect for jitterbugging to the Rockabilly music of the era.

The sixties were the beginning of an era of incredible social activism. The dress got a major makeover, splashed with bright colors, intense patterns, and for the first time in history, the hem was raised above the knee, exposing most of the wearer’s leg. This look became known as the “mod” look, short for “modern”, which is exactly what it would become.

From the seventies until very recently, the dress took a backseat to pants and shorts. It was updated according to the trends of each era, but was ultimately a garment reserved for parties, proms, and other special occasions. The idea of a “day dress” began to seem a little silly.

However, the dress has made a comeback. A few years ago, designers started featuring day dresses once again, and now dresses are once again a garment you can wear every day. Just another example of how old things become new again.

Well, it's that time of year again! Everybody's thinking about what they're going to be for Halloween. Planning your costume (or costumes, depending on how many costume parties you're going to) can be a total blast...it can also be a total nightmare. First you have to decide if you want to be sexy, or scary, or funny, or maybe a combination of the three. Then you shop around for the right costume. Then when you finally find it, you hope and pray that nobody else picks the same one.

It does not have to be like that. Because vintage is not only great for everyday wear, there are also a lot of great ways to incorporate vintage into your Halloween costume. Observe:

Rosie the Riveter

All you need is a button-down shirt (like the one above), high waisted shorts to tuck it into, and a red bandanna or scarf for your hair..oh and a whole lot of attitude!

Nautical Pin-Up Girl

There are a couple of different ways you can do this one...you can pair a striped top like this with high-waisted shorts, or a mini skirt. Don't forget your red lipstick!

80's Aerobics Instructor

Ahh the 80s! What a wonderful decade for the athletes. The spandex! The neon! You've gotta love it. To complete your tribute to Richard Simmons, just pair a body suit like this one with some brightly colored spandex tights or leggings, leg warmers, and a pony tail right on the side of your head. And get ready to party off the pounds!!!

There seems to be a misconception among my fellow college students that in order to look good, you need to spend ridiculous amounts of time getting ready every morning. That is so not the case! Looking stylish is much easier than you might think. It’s all in the details…

With this dress, I’d add a big belt, a couple of long necklaces, and since it’s getting cold where I’m from, fun boots and a jacket.

Sometimes, just adding a jacket is enough to pull your whole look together. This jacket looks super cute over this little dress. It would look just as cute paired with your favorite jeans and a t shirt.

The “rocker” look is so much fun and it’s so easy to pull off! Just grab a cool vintage tee like this one, and pair with destroyed denim shorts, fun tights (I’d opt for sheer black ones, ripped) and a pair of black ankle boots. If it’s cold, add leather jacket and you’re good to go!

Skirts are great for looking cute in any type of weather because you can pair them with anything. If it’s hot out, a tank and flip flops will do just fine. If it’s cold, add tights and a jacket. Accessories are a breeze. Belts and jewelry are all you need to finish the look.

Why we love it: Perfect example of how trend history repeats itself! Sheer fabrics have been cropping up all over major designers’ fall 2010 and spring 2011 collections. But unlike its designer counterparts, this red hot little number will not do a number on your bank account.

How to wear it: Dress it up by tucking it into a high-waisted, structured mini skirt. Dress it down by pairing it with some ripped denim shorts (like in the picture) or your favorite jeans. Get it before some other girl does!

5. Don’t Be Afraid of DIY Alterations

Sometimes, a vintage garment just needs a nip here or a tuck there to fit perfectly. Tying, cutting, and pinning things are also interesting ways to get a good fit and add some character to your outfit.

This doesn’t mean you should try to get all Project Runway if you don’t know what you’re doing. If that dress you just bought is a few inches too long and you try to hem it when you’ve never sewn before, the situation will probably end in tears. It’s best to leave the technical alterations to a friend who sews, or a tailor.

4. Mix Old with New

Buy things you can pair with clothes you wear every day. Some of the coolest outfits out there are the ones that combine vintage pieces with modern trends. If your favorite skinny jeans are already great, imagine how killer they’ll look paired with some vintage boots. Love your new blazer? How cute will it look with a vintage mini dress!

3. Check the Fit

While DIY alterations can help with little fit issues you may have, it’s really important to check the fit of a garment before buying. Sizing has changed considerably over time, and varies greatly depending on which country the garment originally came from. So if you’re buying from a store, always try things on. And if you’re buying online, make sure you check the measurements (and know your own)! Most online vintage sellers will estimate which contemporary size the garment will fit, but you should always double-check the measurements anyways, just to be safe. If you don’t know how to measure yourself, find out how here.

2. Check the Condition

Vintage clothes have been worn before. That’s part of their charm. Don’t expect brand-new clothes items. But make sure you’re getting your money’s worth as well. Check the garment over for flaws/blemishes, and if you’re buying online, read the description! If you’re unsure of the garment’s condition, talk to the seller. They should be able to help you determine whether or not it’s something you want to buy.

And the golden rule of vintage shopping is…

1. If You Feel Like a Glamazon, You Look Like a Glamazon

Ever see somebody walking around in clothes you can just tell they’re really uncomfortable in? That’s because when we’re feeling self-conscious, it comes across in our body language. We tug at hems. We position ourselves awkwardly to hide body parts. We walk funny. Never, ever, ever, ever buy something that you feel like a clown in just to be trendy (this goes for vintage and contemporary clothes alike). Just like you can tell when somebody's uncomfortable with what they're wearing, everybody else will know you don't like the way you look. Buy something because you love it, and you feel good in it. And then rock it! Your style should reflect who you are.

One of our new obsessions here at VPV is red lipstick. Red lipstick has been the choice of beauty icons past and present—think Marilyn Monroe and Gwen Stefani. This vibrant color, available in a shade that is perfect for you, is a great way to add a bit of glam to your outfit or brighten up a rainy day. Many women shy away from wearing red, thinking it is hard to wear. However, once you find your perfect red, you won’t be able to live without it! The secret to wearing red lipstick is finding the right shade for you. Before buying your new lipstick, evaluate your skin tone. If you have “cool” skin (pink undertones, and you look best in silver) pick a blue based shade of red; if you have “warm” skin (yellow undertones, and you look best in gold) try a warmer shade with an orange base. Don’t be afraid to keep experimenting until you find your perfect red. For a long lasting look try a stain, we like Cover Girl’s Outlast Lipstain in Wild Berry Wink; and for a classic red available in a variety of finishes we love MAC’s Russian Red. The final tip for wearing red lipstick is to keep your other makeup muted – you don’t want to look like a clown! A sweep of simple mascara and light blush and your look is complete.

Last Saturday we went to see one of our favorite artists, Damion Suomi along with Paleface. Not only did we see great musicians (and one AMAZING mustache), we went to one of our favorite local venues, daVinci. Not only do they offer great music and drinks, they have a fabulous room full of salvaged antique items! We enjoyed looking around this room prior to the show starting. The Beautiful Braid

Here at VPV we believe that one of a girl’s greatest accessories is her hair. Long or short, blond or brunette, your hair represents unlimited ways to change your look and express yourself. The side braid trend is sweeping the fashion world this spring. Bold, long side braids where seen in the spring collections of Alexander Wang and Miu Miu, and have been spotted from the street to the red carpet. This look is both fun and easy to create, and works well on hair that has already had styling products applied. To achieve this look, simply part your hair on the side or in the middle, sweep to one side at the base of your neck, and braid, securing with elastic. For a glamorous finish like Diane Kruger’s SAG Awards style, loop the end of your braid back to the base of the braid at the neck, and secure with an elastic or bobby pins.

Spring Trend: Nautical

Even with a winter chill still in the air (and on the ground along the east coast), at VPV we can’t help but look forward to spring, and a spring wardrobe! One of our favorite looks for the new season is the nautical trend—especially Breton stripes. The “nautical” or “sailor” look has been cycling through the fashion world for decades, and was made classic by the likes of Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot. This year nautical was given a make-over by John Paul Gaultier. Although it is still too early to pack away our winter wear, nautical pieces can be worn transitionally. A Breton stripe tunic can be worn over skinnies or leggings, or a nautical blazer can provide a warm layer over pants, and later over shorts or a summer dress. Rain, rain, go away… we’re having such dreary weather here in “always sunny” Florida. The bright spot in our day at VPV has been getting new looks ready to list!
